Horse sport events/activities include dressage, jumping and cross country for training, skills development, equestrian competitions, campdrafting and rodeo activities.
While horse sport events/activities may not form part of the delivery of Australian Curriculum learning area/subjects, the Department of Education recognises these activities are integral to some school communities and offer numerous benefits for students.
Event/activities organised and operated by peak bodies
Horse sport events/activities are not organised or operated by Queensland Representative School Sport. While the Department of Education does not support state schools becoming financially affiliated members of horse-riding and/or equestrian peak bodies, state school students may participate in these events, under their school name, wearing the uniform associated with their school, under the supervision of their parents or the peak body.
Student absence from school to attend a horse sport event/activity organised and operated by peak bodies
Parents determine whether their child engages in horse sport events/activities in a private capacity during school hours.
Student absences as a result of attendance at these events are to be recorded in OneSchool using the absence reason code O – Other.
